One – Human Interest

A Russian astronaut has pledged to take the Gospels with him when he heads to the International Space Station later this month.

Sergey Ryzhikov, aged 42, also said the new crew at the station have the call sign “Tabor” after Mount Tabor, the site of the transfiguration of Jesus.

Ryzhikov was speaking at a press conference in the Astronaut Training Center at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre.

He said he will take “the Gospels, icons, letters from his relatives and stones from Mount Tabor”, Russian media reported. Read more here.

Two – Health

Huge study: Of 12,000 pregnant women with Zika, none had a baby with microcephaly

The New England Complex Systems Institute has shed new light on the situation and opened the possibility that the declared Zika link may be premature. The study is expansive and so credible that the New England Journal of Medicine published the preliminary results in spite of already concluding Zika was the problem.

The study looked at nearly 12,000 pregnant Colombian women infected with Zika. None of them had a baby with microcephaly. Four cases of microcephaly were reported with women who didn’t have Zika symptoms and were not part of the study, which is consistent with the normal expected number of cases.

Three – Recipe

Spinach Quiche Cups

A little olive oil (for cooking the mushrooms)
1 (10 oz) package fresh spinach (I used the baby ones) — about 284 grams
4 eggs (if the yolks are quite small I use 5 eggs)
1 cup shredded cheese of your choice (I use mozzarella or the Italian Blend)
1 (8 oz package) mini-bella mushrooms, chopped

1-2 Tbsp, heavy cream or half-and-half (optional)

Salt and Pepper, to taste.

Preheat oven to

Heat a little oil in a large skillet. Saute the mushrooms until they are soft, about 5-6 minutes. Set Aside.
Place the spinach in a deep pan or in the skillet that you used for the mushrooms.

Add a little water, ¼ cup should do it.

Using medium heat, cook the spinach just until wilted, about 3-4 mins.

Use either your hand or a spatula to pack in the spinach.

Drain the excess water really well (especially if you decide to use frozen spinach instead).

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until combined. Add the cooked mushrooms, spinach, cheeses and cream (if using) to the eggs. Mix well. Season to taste.

Divide evenly among the 12 muffin cups. The muffin tray was slightly bigger than usual so I only filled about 10 cups.

Bake for about 20-23 minutes, or until it’s well set and a tester/toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Leave in the pan for a few minutes or just until it’s cool enough to handle. It was so easy to remove them from the pan! They practically pop-out!

Sprinkle with a little more cheese on top, if desired.

Four – Prep

These are great to have on hand:

Powdered drink mixes:

  • Tang is a prepper classic to enhance the water supply.
Nasa flew astronauts to the moon and back with Tang.
It has Calcium and Vitamin C to help avoid scurvy!
  • Gatorade powder has a boost of electrolytes.
  • Wylers, Koolaid or whatever tickles your sweet tooth.

Bouillon cubes are compressed stock. This salty essential will help you flavor soups, rices, ramen style noodles and gravies.

Five – Foundation

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus will I bless You while I live: I will lift up my hands in Your name.” Psalm 86:4-5

Rejoice the soul of Your servant: for unto You, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon You.” John 14:13

100,000 Chileans Protest Pending Abortion Law—Demand “Christian” Democrats Return to Roots Dan Zeidler (Sep 6, 2016) Santiago, Chile – LifeSiteNews

“We do not want to follow the other countries of the world which have abandoned the protection of the weakest members of the human family, starting first with so-called ‘only limited abortion’ and ending up with even more horrific consequences and all the damage that comes in the wake of abortion to society in general.” -Elizabeth Bunster of Chile es Vida.

In a massive rejection of the government’s insistence on pushing through legislation to open the country to “legal abortion,” Chileans from all walks of life, social status and religions amassed this past Saturday in downtown Santiago for a “Celebrate Life” rally. (Photo via

Evangelical Christians along with Catholics and others denounced the legislative push by President Michele Bachelet and other elected officials which calls for legalizing abortion of unborn children conceived in rape, or who are determined to have a medical condition incompatible with life, or where there is danger to the mother’s life.
